Help Raise Money for Young Musicians, While Enjoying a Performance by This Trail-Blazing Band

For 24 years Douglas Anderson School of the Arts has presented Jacksonville with The Great Guitar Gathering, a fundraising concert to benefit the guitar department for the school. The event not only showcases the fabulous DA Guitar Orchestra but has presented many of the most respected solo artists in classical, finger-style, and jazz guitar. This year’s guest is The John Jorgenson Quintet!

Music virtuoso John Jorgenson, known for his blistering guitar licks and mastery of a broad musical palette, has earned a reputation as a world-class musician and guitarist who has collaborated with the likes of Elton John, Luciano Pavarotti, Bonnie Raitt and Bob Dylan. In addition to acoustic and electric guitars, he is featured on the saxophone, clarinet, bouzouki, pedal steel, mandolin, and vocals.

The John Jorgenson Quintet is also comprised of Jason Anick (jazz violin), Jon Jarvis (piano), Simon Planting (bass) and Rick Reed (percussion). Anick, a prodigious graduate from the University of Hartford’s performing arts conservatory, the Hartt School, joined the quintet in 2008. He is now a Boston-based performer, composer, and sought-after instructor at the Berklee College of Music. Let’s not forget the session pianist and keyboardist: Jon Jarvis, who has performed on countless rock and country albums since the mid-70s, having collaborated with many musicians.

Not to mention, world renowned touring double bassist Planting has studied with Europe’s finest and played with the top echelon of jazz manouche guitarists. Now based in San Francisco, he has been a member of the John Jorgenson Quintet since 2009. Finally, Reed, originally from Alabama, spent many years in New York City playing jazz before relocating to Nashville, where he has played with a diverse range of artists from Shelby Lynne to Ray Davies from the Kinks.
